Story of Mathews + Vasek Construction
Andy Vasek and Shandon Mathews started Mathews + Vasek Construction in 2005 with one simple goal: to build homes that people love living in. What began in Andy’s garage in Silver Lake, MN, with just the two of them, quickly grew through small projects like reroofing, window replacements, decks, and additions. From the start, they focused on honesty, quality, and doing the work right.
By 2014, they were expanding into buying and developing unique properties in the west metro, always keeping a keen eye on making the most of each home’s space and surroundings. Much of their work has come through referrals, a testament to the trust and satisfaction of their clients.
In 2022, the office moved to Waconia to be closer to clients and stay hands-on with every project. Nearly 20 years later, Mathews + Vasek Construction continues to focus on integrity, hard work, and thoughtful design as a trusted custom home builder, taking on projects of all sizes, including bathroom remodels, custom garages, and complete custom homes.
Meet the Team
Andy Vasek
Andy Vasek is co-owner of Mathews + Vasek Construction, where he’s spent 20 years leading custom home builds and remodels with a focus on quality and craftsmanship. He’s passionate about working closely with clients, guiding each project with care, and making sure every home reflects the people who live in it.
A native of rural Minnesota, Andy now lives in the west metro with his son, Leo. When he’s not on a job site, they enjoy lake days, catching concerts and festivals, or cheering on the Minnesota Timberwolves. Andy’s hands-on leadership ensures that Mathews Vasek Construction continues to build homes with integrity, care, and lasting quality.
Shandon Mathews
Shandon Mathews is co-owner of Mathews + Vasek Construction and a master craftsman. Married with three kids, he loves spending time with family and friends and being outdoors. You’ll usually find him hunting, fishing, boating, camping, or smoking meat, and he also makes his own maple syrup. He enjoys concerts and traveling as well. Known for his strong work ethic and creativity, Shandon brings hands-on skill and care to every job site.
Justin Jacques
Justin is a Project Manager at Mathews + Vasek Construction. When he’s not working, you’ll likely find him with friends or family hunting, fishing, boating, or golfing. He also takes pride in coaching his daughter’s basketball team and following along with his kids' youth activities.
Justin got his start in the trades during high school, working summers in HVAC & plumbing before spending eight years in electrical work. That hands-on background led him into custom home building, where he enjoys guiding projects from start to finish and working closely with clients to bring their ideas to life. Justin enjoys the challenge of new ideas and is always open to taking on unique projects.
Beau Vasek
Beau is a Job Supervisor who grew up in the family business and loves creating beautiful, functional spaces for others to enjoy. A GSL Panthers fan, he spends most of his free time in the world of motorsports or coaching his kids in football, basketball, and baseball. On weekends, he’s usually taking day trips with his family, and he relaxes by spending time at home and tackling yardwork. He brings hands-on skill and a genuine passion for building custom homes.
Ben Silseth
Ben is a carpenter who specializes in framing and finishing, bringing a strong work ethic shaped by years of helping on his family’s farm. He enjoys field work and working cattle, and his favorite tractor will always be the JD 7400. Outside of work, Ben loves traveling, exploring new places, hunting, and taking trips to the Black Hills or the Rocky Mountains. When he is home, you will often find him working on the farm or reading about history, economics, or real estate. Growing up, he spent winters skiing weekly with his siblings and cousins. His passion for building started early by helping his dad with projects around the farm, and custom home building became the perfect way to grow his skills and expand his craftsmanship.
Jessica Tewes-Francis
Jess handles Social Media and Marketing and also has a background in interior selections and interior design. Her passion for custom homes began after remodeling her own, an experience that inspired her to help others navigate the process with confidence and creativity. Outside of work, she enjoys bike rides with her kids, bonfires, painting, exploring new places, and staying busy coaching and managing her kids’ sports teams.
